The 4 Hour Workweek Challenge

Want to retire in 12 months, or work 4 hours a week?

Ah... my first day on the 4 Hour workweek challenge. Feels good!

I have been feeling kinda sour the last few months. I have made great strides in my work life, but home seems to be stressing me more than ever. I even joked with a co-worker just the other day..." it's funny..I'm happier at work than being at home, it's usually the other way around!"

Well, i started my journey last Oct when i purchased Tim's book. I read it, and read it...then proceeded to put forth some changes. I immediately went out to find a better job (i.e. better hours and or better pay) and got it! I even set my own hours (no more mandatory weekends or close to opens). My pay did not go up though, but since i set my schedule and they are sticking to it, i work more productive hours now than i did at my previous job. So i am really making more now than i ever did there.

Next, i began to turn down my T.V. time. At this time, it was fortunate that they started the writers strike. Most if not all the shows i watched suddenly were not there. I started watching less and less and went from watching 6 hours per night to about 3. Then 2. And now....NONE. I am even in the process of selling my t.v. and i even sold my dvd/vcr combo player! No more movie rentals ($) and no more late fee$! The few shows i like, i can watch whenever i want on line. And without the constant commercials..i breeze thru them much faster and can move on.

Next, i began working on my muses. And to get back into my Yoga and rock climbing. The ideas are flowing, and it feels great to actually have time to do these things once again.

My next goals seem to be the hardest. I want to move out of state and then start my global walkabout. But $ and my sanity is an issue..lol My roommates make it hard to get any quality sleep. So moving out is a MUST. But this takes $$. I want to move out of state..this also costs $$.

I really have no desire to work 2 or more jobs. My muses are not working out (yet) and i really need to move forward. Do i stay and try to save more $ (another 3-6 months minimum of hell) or do i take what i can scrape up currently and just GO? There are people who have come over to this country with less and still made it, so i certainly can. Tim suggests (with common sense) that "..the objective will be to have a new job or source of cash flow before quitting your job. Problem solved". I am looking at the possibility of transferring to a store there (retail), but if that falls thru...

Decisions, decisions...

*whew* Felt good to get THAT off my chest!

I am glad i found this site, and hope to inspire as well as be inspired and succeed!

Any suggestions, feedback or comments are welcome. Each one, teach one!

Great Chuck,

I wouldn't quit outright just yet. Keep the income stream while you work on your muses.
Did you know that John Grisham wrote his books while still practicing law! He woke up at 4am to write 2 hours before work, and then wrote some more when he returned.

It may be 'hell' now, but that will make you all the stronger.

I'm glad you found a better job and set your own hours! Great! Keep up the progress. Sounds like you are on track to me!
